Skin Care Tips for Oily Skin
November 22, 2017On my previous post about how you would know your skin type, I have shared that I have an oily skin. Having an oily skin is really a struggle since I was a teen. I have never been ready for stolen shots, I cannot leave the house without loose powder on my pouch and I cannot do woke-up-like-this photos because my face gets oily when I wake up in the morning. I don't know but oily skin seems to be embarrassing. It makes you think that people look at your face because it is always shiny and sticky. Have you experienced these too?
But don't worry with all the skin care products that are out in the market today, we should not be afraid of oil anymore.
Oily skin as we have discussed is characterized by an oily or greasy T-zone (that is your forehead, nose and chin area), with open pores that is acne-prone, and usually turns red when exposed to direct sunlight. It is called as seborrhea in the medical field and is caused by excessive oil produced in the pores due to hormonal imbalance. Stress, menstrual cycle, dirt and pollution, the weather, and your diet are also contributing factors that can increase oil production on our skin.
So, what can we do about it?
After trying out different remedies, I have found these 7 useful tips help me control all the oil in my skin. But take note, oil or "sebum" is not an enemy, it can also do good in our skin such as lubricating our skin and protects us from environmental pollutants, fight the effects of SPF and it slows down aging too.
7 SKIN CARE TIPS FOR OILY SKIN
1. FOLLOW THE CORRECT ROUTINE
Many expert says that using different beauty products will not do it all. It also lies on you HOW you apply them on your skin. If you want to achieve lesser oil on your skin you have to do your routine correctly.
First: CLEANSE
Second: TONE
Third: EXFOLIATE twice a week. Use TREATMENT MASKS in between.
Fourth: ACNE TREATMENT
Fifth: EYE CREAM
Sixth: MOISTURIZE
Seventh: SUNSCREEN in the morning
That is the basic routine that you should follow. Each step is done to prepare your skin for the next step so stick to this routine regardless of what product you are using.

2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLEANSER
Cleansing is done to remove dirt, dead skin cells, make-up, oil and other unwanted substances on our skin. Wash your face TWICE A DAY not more, not less. Oily skin is sensitive so do not over wash or else it will dry out. Also, remember to choose a cleanser with salicylic acid which is acne's best enemy. There are a lot of facial cleanser available in the market but before purchasing one read the contents.
3. SAY NO TO ALCOHOL-BASED TONERS
Toning is done to remove dirt that was left behind after cleansing. It deeply cleanses into the pores and dries out surface oil so it's a MUST. But be careful. Alcohol tends to dry out our skin so try to avoid it. Instead, look for toners that are made for oily skin.
4. EXFOLIATE TWICE A WEEK
Exfoliation is done to remove dead skin cells that are not removed during cleansing and toning in order to bring out the new skin that lies below the surface. However, this should be done only twice a week because this can be harsh for our skin too. You can buy exfoliating creams and scrubs on beauty bars or at the nearest Watson's or you can D-I-Y one. 5. YOU NEED TO MOISTURIZE
Many people mistaken oil as moisture. No, it's a different thing. Oily skin can be dehydrated at the same time. So, do not forget to apply moisturizer on your skin. Choose a product that is light and non-greasy for everyday use.
Blotting paper, oil-control film or absorbent facial papers have been my best friend in fighting oily skin. Not only they keep me shine-free it also removes the sticky feeling. Some blotting papers also have powders in them that gives you a matte finish so you don't need to bring out your compact powder all the time. Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets and Bench Prescribe Facial Absorbent Paper are some of my fave blotting papers. This is a must-have especially when you travel a lot.
7. CHOOSE OIL-FREE PRODUCTS
Lastly, after doing all the skin care we should also consider what we apply on top of our skin - the make-up. If you have oily skin you don't want products that will make your skin look shinier right? So choose oil-free make-ups that won't clogged up your pores like Essence All About Matt Oil-Free Makeup or Happy Skin ZZ Cream.
I hope these 7 Skin Care Tips for Oily skin will help you out on your struggle. Yes, this worked for me and might work for you too. So, give it a try!
